Track 9 - Venite Adoremus

Here is the original field recording that inspired the arrangement:

When I first heard this song I was taken aback by the ambiance of the field recording itself. You can vividly picture this priest singing in the middle of a cavernous cathedral, in the heart of a town square, in a small village in Italy.

I wanted to create a piece that juxtaposes modernity with traditions of old. In a similar way that the priest is singing in latin that has been influenced by his regional language, I wanted it to be a piece that was mashing up these ideas from church’s past and present. At the end, Amanda sings the priests words in English with a flourish of “modern church” harmonies behind her.

LYRICS:
Regem, cui omnia vivunt, venite adoremus.
|: Venite, exsultemus Domino,
jubilemus Deo Salutari nostro.
Praeoccupemus faciem ejus in confessione,
et in psalmis jubilemus ei.
Regem, cui omnia vivunt, venite adoremus. :|

Hodie, si vocem ejius audieritis, nolite obdure corda vestra,
sicut in exacerbatione, secundum diem tentationis in deserto,
ubi tentaverunt me patres vestri,
probaverunt et viderunt opera mea.
Venite adoremus.

TRANSLATION:
Come, let us adore the King in Whom Everything has Life.
Come and glorify the Lord.
Let us rejoice in the God of our Salvation.
Let us bear witness to His majesty, and let us sing of Him in Psalms.
Come and adore Him.

If today you hear His voice, do not harden your heart,
as happened previously during the exacerbating days of desert wandering,
when your fathers tempted Me and by means of their testing verified My works.
Come and adore Him.
