Track 8 - Som Som (LIVE VERSION)
This song was brought to the group by our incredible vocalist, Amanda Powell. While spending some time in Northern Italy she learned this song from a group of farmers that sang in four part harmony. Som Som is a lullaby that sounds almost more like French than Italian.
Here we found more info on this tune and what it’s about…
”The framework of this sweet Provençal lullaby is given by the monosyllable ‘som’, rhythmic almost to imitate the regularity of breathing
and therefore to reconcile sleep: this aims to induce in the little listener an environmental/mental situation favorable to sleep through
the repetition, the hypnotic iteration of the lullaby rhythm. In our song ‘som, som’ is certainly the contraction of the word
French ‘sommeil’ (sleep), it has the function of an onomatopoeic sound and comes to take on the meaning of ‘sleep, sleep’ rather than
‘sleep,’ as it should be literally translated.” - Taken from Coro Ana Milano
On our first record we recorded a different version of this song. (HERE)
